Check if the deceased made requests/plans for their body and a service or funeral

Many people pre-plan funerals, burials, cremation, or donation to science. If this is the case for your loved one, you should find these plans and arrange for the right organization to pick up the body.

1) If the death occurred in a nursing home or under hospice, handling the body should have been pre-planned already, and the staff should help you with this.

2) If the death occurred out of a nursing home or hospice, look for the will or other documents that contain information on how to proceed.

  • If what to do with the body and the service was planned, the document should have a name and number of where to call. Call them to find out about next steps.

3) If there was no plan, you can then decide yourself. Go to the next instructions for deciding what to do with the body for help.
